Nathan Samayo was born in Guåhan and raised in Tacoma, Washington. He obtained his BA in Sociology, with minors in Mathematics and History at Seattle Pacific University, and his Master of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School where he studied religion and decolonial thought in the Pacific Islander diaspora. As a PhD student in the Religion and Society department, Nathan’s research focuses on the intersection of military technology, political ecology, and Oceanic (Pasifika) culture, epistemology and intellectual history. His primary interests are concerned with Oceanic cultural erasure and ecological catastrophe in light of 21st century technologies and U.S. military occupation. When not working, Nathan likes to BBQ and bump Island reggae.
