The Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Lerone A. Martin on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 7:00 pm in the Theron Room of the Wright Library. The title of Dr. Martin’s lecture is “Becoming King.”

We are honored to welcome Dr. Martin to our campus. He is the Centennial Professor in Religious Studies and Director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University. Previously, he was a member of the faculty at the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics and Director of American Culture Studies at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Martin is the author of The Gospel of J. Edgar Hoover: How the FBI Aided and Abetted the Rise of White Christian Nationalism (2023) and Preaching on Wax: The Phonograph and the Making of Modern African American Religion (2014).

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture is sponsored by the President’s Office, the Association of Black Seminarians and the Betsey Stockton Center for Black Church Studies. The lecture was established to embrace the heritage of Martin Luther King, Jr. and “to engage Christian faith with intellectual, political and economic life in pursuit of truth, justice, compassion and peace.

The lecture will be live-streamed on the Seminary’s YouTube channel. You must register HERE with Eventbrite in order to receive a link to the lecture. Registration for in-person attendance is optional.

Following the lecture, light refreshments will be served in Library Hall.
