Geddes W. Hanson Lecture

The 2019 Geddes W. Hanson lecture will be presented by Jonathan L. Walton on October 16 at 5:00 p.m. in Miller Chapel at Princeton Theological Seminary. Walton will deliver a lecture titled “How to Become a Famous Preacher! Henry Ward Beecher and the Ethics of Moral Suasion.” A reception will follow in the Main Lounge of the Mackay Campus Center.

Jonathan L. Walton, PhD '06, MDiv '02, is a social ethicist whose scholarship focuses on evangelical Christianity and its relationship to mass media and political culture. He is the dean of the Wake Forest University School of Divinity in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Previously, Walton served as the Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister in the Memorial Church of Harvard University. His work and insights have been featured in several national and international news outlets, including the New York Times, CNN, Time, and the BBC.
