Welcome to the new website for the Center for Theology, Women, and Gender at Princeton Theological Seminary!
The Center for Theology, Women, and Gender (CTWG) was established to address issues related to the intersections of race, class, gender identity, and sexuality in church and society. The idea for the Center grew out of the Seminary’s longstanding commitment to redress inequalities at the Seminary, in the church, and in the world. Scripture testifies that God desires a world in which all persons, regardless of race, class, gender, or disabilities, are able to flourish and live the abundant life, a promise which stands at the heart of the gospel.
Through conferences, coursework, and events, the Center shapes students, alumni, and church leaders to be change agents regarding the pressing issues of inequality facing our world. Students can also choose to focus their coursework and earn a Certificate in Theology, Women, and Gender. The certificate program prepares students for ministry in churches, prisons, hospitals, college campuses, and other nonprofit organizations.
The Center for Theology, Women, and Gender is also home to the Women in Ministry Initiative (WIM) and two student groups—the Women’s Center, and GSAS (Gender and Sexuality Association for Seminarians).
Princeton Theological Seminary’s Center for Theology, Women, and Gender is a visible, active agent in promoting the flourishing of all persons. To that end, the CTWG advocates for those who find themselves marginalized, in both church and society, due to their gender identity, particularly women and sexual minorities who struggle for equality and inclusion at all levels of society.
The Center accomplishes this by fostering critical reflection on gender through a theological lens, and by advocating for positive change in church and society as necessary.
Furthermore, the CTWG takes, whenever possible, an intersectional approach to issues of gender, race, class, and disabilities, believing that only through attention to the complex interplay of these categories can enduring and life-giving transformation take place.
The Center advocates for change so that the church might better reflect the body of Christ, and witness more faithfully to the transforming power of Christ in the world.
