On October 26, 2022, Princeton Theological Seminary, the Association of Black Seminarians, and the Betsey Stockton Center for Black Church Studies welcomed Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis, MDiv ’92, as this year’s Dr. Geddes Witney Hanson, Charlotte W. Newcombe Professor of Congregational Ministry (Emeritus 2009), lecturer. Rev. Dr. Lewis’ lecture was titled “In the Name of Jesus: Reclaiming and Reframing ‘Christian,’” a self-described “frisky homily,” on Jeremiah 23:16-32, a passage where God calls out the prophets and priests for preaching lies and calls out the people for believing those lies, forgetting who God is, whose they are, and what God has done for them. “To be in a community where I got to hear so many different perspectives—that was profound for me. I’m grateful for the curiosity, for the practice of learning that was cultivated for me at Seminary.”
