The Community Action Network (CAN) brings the Word of God to life by connecting members of the seminary community to various social justice initiatives. On campus, CAN instigates dialogue and programming based on current events and social structures that directly affect the lives of students. CAN also acknowledges, participates in and seeks to cosponsor the ongoing work of other student organizations–such as the Association of Black Seminarians (ABS), the Asian Association at Princeton Theological Seminary (AAPTS), Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Supporters (BGLASS) and the Women’s Center–in their respective campaigns against oppression and injustice. In the greater Mercer County area, CAN fosters relationships between students and nonprofit organizations, finding employment opportunities for students whose overwhelming passions for service drive their individual calls to ministry.

Princeton Seminary is actively developing sustainable community engagement efforts whereby our first-year students can interact, learn, and invest time and energy in matters of social justice and equity issues. The Community Engagement Collaborative (CEC) is an effort to provide first-year students with a comprehensive experience during a span of eight to 10 weeks in the fall semester at a host site.
