King James Bible and Versión Reina-Valera: History and Heritage (English)
October 11, 2012
October 13, 2012
Princeton Theological Seminary
School of Christian Vocation and Mission
Overview

The translation of the Bible into vernacular languages changed the landscape of theological thought and Christian mission. The historical, social, political and theological context of the translation of the Reina-Valera version in Spanish and King James’ commissioning of another version in English have similarities and differences that continue to shed light into the life of the Western Christianity in the 1600s, and challenges the church today.
The bicentennial anniversary of Princeton Seminary, and the centennial celebrations of First Spanish Evangelical (El Buen Vecino Presbyterian) Church in NYC are formidable reasons for celebration and the sharing of ideas.
