Ulrich W. MauserDr. Ulrich W. Mauser, Otto A. Piper Professor of Biblical Theology Emeritus at Princeton Theological Seminary, of Trafford, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at age 81. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Mauser received his bachelor’s degree and doctorate from the University of Tübingen and a master’s degree from the University of St. Andrews. Upon completion of his master’s, Mauser returned to Stuttgart, where he served as a pastor until 1959, when he and his wife, Margaret, moved to the United States. He was university pastor at Oregon State University (1959–1964), associate professor of biblical theology and professor of biblical theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (1964–1977), professor of New Testament and vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (1977–1990), before joining the faculty of Princeton Seminary in 1990 as the Helen H.P. Manson Professor of New Testament Literature and Exegesis. He retired as the Otto A. Piper Professor of Biblical Theology in 1999. Mauser wrote several books and articles during his career and served as editor of the journal Horizons in Biblical Theology: An International Dialogue. He was married to his wife Margaret for fifty-four years. He is survived by her and by four sons, Ulrich Jr. of Irwin, Pennsylvania; Martin of Shaler, Pennsylvania; George of Upland, California, and Thomas of Chesapeake, Virginia; and five grandchildren. |
