Christian Ethicist and Theologian to Receive Annual Kuyper Prize at Princeton Seminary

Princeton, NJ, April 8, 2008–Dr. Oliver O’Donovan, professor of Christian ethics and practical theology at New College in Edinburgh, Scotland, is the recipient of Princeton Theological Seminary’s 2008 Abraham Kuyper Prize for Excellence in Reformed Theology and Public Life. He will receive the award when he delivers the Seminary’s Kuyper Lecture on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. His lecture is titled “Some Reflections on Pluralism.”

Chinese Scholar to Lecture at Princeton Seminary on the Bible in China

Lee, professor of biblical studies and Asian hermeneutics in the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, and dean of the faculty of arts, at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, will deliver Princeton Seminary’s annual Alexander Thompson Lecture on Monday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Mackay Campus Center. T.F. Torrance Collection Donated to Princeton Seminary

Torrance (1913–2007) has donated his books, personal papers, and manuscripts to the special collections of the Princeton Theological Seminary Libraries. Princeton Seminary Presents Carols of Many Nations

Princeton, NJ, November 30, 2007–Princeton Theological Seminary will offer two musical services of carols from around the world for the Seminary and Princeton communities on December 19 at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in Miller Chapel on the Seminary’s campus. This biennial Christmas tradition has continued for more than twelve years and offers a counterpoint to the more traditional Service of Lessons and Carols. After each identical service, everyone is invited to carol by candlelight outside of the chapel on the Seminary’s quadrangle.

Princeton, NJ, November 5, 2007–Princeton Theological Seminary’s History Department will host a lecture by Dr. Karl F. Morrison, Lessing Professor of History and Poetics at Rutgers University, on Monday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Mackay Campus Center. The title of the lecture, “Anselm’s Proof and the Hairs of the Madonna,” refers to Anselm’s famous Proslogion, including its “proof” for the existence of God, as well as Anselm’s devotion to the Virgin Mary, including the sacred relics of some strands of her hair. Dr. Caroline Bynum, professor of Western European Middle Ages at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, will offer a response following Morrison’s lecture. Kirkland Minister of the Chapel, and appoint Ammon as the first to bear that title. Princeton Seminary Student and Tutor Featured in National Down Syndrome Society Video September 30 in Times Square

Princeton, NJ, September 28, 2007–Princeton Theological Seminary student Ben Gulker of Holland, Michigan, and Max Gebert, the Princeton boy he tutors, will be featured in a video to be shown in Times Square September 30 in conjunction with the annual National Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk. The video is part of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and will be shown Sunday on the forty-foot Newscorp Astrovision screen. The video’s forty-minute time slot is sponsored by Panasonic and includes 215 photographs of people with Down syndrome, chosen from 2,500 images that were submitted to the society.

Princeton Seminary Welcomes New Students as 196th Academic Year Begins

Princeton, NJ, September 12, 2007–Princeton Theological Seminary will begin its 196th academic year with a convocation on Tuesday, September 18 at 8:00 p.m. in Miller Chapel. Dr. John R. Bowlin, the Seminary’s new Rimmer and Ruth de Vries Associate Professor of Reformed Theology and Public Life, will give the convocation address, titled “Some Thoughts on Doing Theology in Public.” Classes will begin the morning of September 19, when the community celebrates the Sacrament of Holy Communion at 10:00 a.m., officiated by President Iain Torrance. Princeton University Professor to Lecture at Princeton Seminary on Evil, Egotism, and the Sacred in Film

Princeton, NJ, August 7, 2007–Jeffrey Stout, professor of religion at Princeton University, will deliver the Stone Lectures at Princeton Seminary in a series of five lectures and five film screenings beginning Monday, September 24. The series is titled “A Light That Shines in the Darkness: Evil, Egotism, and the Sacred in Film,” and will include screenings of films by Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Capra, Lars von Trier, Yasujiro Ozu, Nathaniel Dorsky, Stan Brakhage, and two rarely seen film by the late avant-garde filmmaker Gregory Markopoulos: his six-minute, 16mm 1968 film Bliss, and a thirty-minute preview excerpt from his 16mm eighty-hour masterwork Eniaios, scheduled to premiere in June 2008 in Greece.

Princeton Theological Seminary Receives Generous Grant from the William A. and Eugenie H. Sullivan Trust of The Philadelphia Foundation

Princeton, NJ, July 6, 2007–Princeton Theological Seminary has received a grant of $26,632.76 given to the William Albert and Eugenie Hummel Sullivan Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund by the William A. and Eugenie H. Sullivan Trust of The Philadelphia Foundation. The scholarship endowment fund supports students who are preparing for ministry.
