Hispanic Theological Initiative Announces 2009 Book Award and Lecture Princeton, NJ, May 7, 2009–The Hispanic Theological Initiative (HTI) at Princeton Theological Seminary has announced that Dr. David A. Sánchez, assistant professor of New Testament studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California, will receive its annual book prize for 2009. The prize, awarded for his book From Patmos to the Barrio: Subverting Imperial Myths (Fortress Press), will be presented at HTI’s thirteenth annual summer workshop at Princeton Seminary on Saturday, June 27. Christian Philosopher to Receive Princeton Seminary Annual Kuyper Prize for Excellence in Reformed Theology and Public Life Princeton, NJ, April 7, 2009–Dr. Alvin Plantinga, John A. Princeton Theological Seminary Invites the Church and the Academy to Read Calvin Together in 2009 in “A Year with the Institutes” Princeton, NJ, December 17, 2008–Princeton Theological Seminary is inviting the church, the academy, and individual Christians around the world to celebrate the 500th anniversary of John Calvin’s birth by participating in “A Year with the Institutes,” a daily reading of Calvin’s major work, The Institutes of the Christian Religion, during 2009. Calvin, the most important founding theologian of the Reformed theological tradition, was born July 10, 1509. His Institutes represent a systematized approach to Reformed theology, written with a pastor’s heart in service to the church of Calvin’s day. Rebecca Kleintop Owens to Perform at Princeton Seminary October 24 Princeton, NJ, October 20, 2008–Rebecca Kleintop Owens, director of music and organist at Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, will be the guest organist for the Joe R. Engle Organ Concert on Friday, October 24 at 8:00 p.m. With the Princeton Seminary choir, Owens will present a concert of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs for organ, choir, and congregation, featuring works by Karg-Elert, Vaughn-Williams, Bach, and Weaver. Following intermission, there will be a celebration of a lovefeast, and the Princeton Seminary choir will join Owens in leading the congregation in “Singstunde,” a Moravian tradition of singing of hymns without pause between songs. Torrance, president of Princeton Theological Seminary, is one of more than seventy-five ecumenical representatives attending the 2008 Lambeth Conference in Canterbury, England from July 18–August 4. The Lambeth Conference, hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, is a meeting of the archbishops and bishops of the Anglican Communion around the world that takes place every ten years. Torrance is representing the World Alliance of Reformed Churches at the conference.
