What Are God’s Politics? What Does God Want?

Princeton Theological Seminary to Host Conversations with God Author Neale Donald Walsch and Sojourners Founder Jim Wallis

Princeton, NJ, April 5, 2005 —Princeton Theological Seminary will welcome Conversations with God author Neale Donald Walsch and Sojourners founder Jim Wallis to campus on April 19 and 26, respectively, as part of the Seminary’s “Prophetic Voices—Healing Visions” series.

Walsch, who just released his 16th book, What God Wants: A Compelling Answer to Humanity’s Biggest Question, will deliver the lecture “A Perspective on Global Healing: What Does God Want?” on April 19 at 8:00 p.m. in the Seminary’s Mackay Campus Center auditorium.

In 1992, in frustration, Walsch fired off an angry letter to God asking God many of the questions with which he had been struggling. Over the course of three years, Walsch engaged in a dialogue with God that led to the publication of his first book,Conversations with God. Standing outside the Reformed tradition, Walsch says his response from God was “startling and dramatically different from anything you’ve ever heard before.”

“Mr. Walsch’s lay perspective raises the issue of the priesthood of all believers and illustrates the doctrine of general revelation,” says Dave Carlson, the student coordinator of the Seminary’s Wholistic Health Initiative and one of the sponsors of the “Prophetic Voices—Healing Visions” series. “His alternative voice asks profound questions and offers controversial answers. Whether or not one agrees with Mr. Walsch, people inside and outside the church are certainly considering his perspective.”

Wallis, who has worked for more than 30 years with Christian peace and justice organizations, will deliver the lecture “The Healing of the Nation,” on April 26 at 4:30 p.m. in the Seminary’s Mackay Campus Center auditorium. He and Princeton University’s Class of 1943 University Professor of Religion Dr. Cornel West will also speak together on religion and politics at Princeton University’s McCosh Hall #50 at 8:00 p.m.

Wallis, who recently authored God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It, continues to serve as the editor of Sojourners magazine, which covers faith, politics, and social change. He founded Sojourners, a Christian ministry whose mission is to “proclaim and practice the biblical call to integrate spiritual renewal and social justice,” in 1971. In 1995, Wallis helped form Call to Renewal, a national federation of churches, denominations, and faith-based organizations from across the political and theological spectrum dedicated to overcoming poverty.

The “Prophetic Voices—Healing Visions” series is sponsored by the Seminary’s Wholistic Health Initiative and Seminarians for Peace and Justice, and are partnering with the Office of Religious Life at Princeton University in the Wallis-West dialogue.

All events are free and open to the public. Walsch and Wallis will hold book signings 45 minutes prior to their lectures on the Seminary campus. Books will be available for purchase.
