Teachers Attend Princeton Seminary Event on Intelligent Design
Princeton, NJ, June 29, 2006–Princeton Seminary’s Center of Continuing Education held an event titled “Bible, Theology, and Intelligent Design” on June 28 at the Erdman Conference Center on the Seminary campus. The seminar was designed specifically for public school science teachers, and qualified for professional development hours from the New Jersey Department of Education. This is the first time the Seminary has offered an event focused on the needs of school teachers.

Princeton Seminary Recognizes Oxford University Professor with Distinguished Alumna Award
Princeton, NJ, June 21, 2006–Marilyn McCord Adams, the Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford University, England, received Princeton Theological Seminary’s Distinguished Alumna Award at its annual Reunion Banquet on May 19. The award ceremony capped the two-day reunion for graduates from across the decades. She was selected in recognition of her leadership in academic life and scholarship, and in the Episcopal Church.

Southeast Asia Photographs at Princeton Seminary’s Erdman Gallery
Princeton, NJ, May 26, 2006–Photographer Paul Grand will display his art photography of Southeast Asian Buddhas and temples in an exhibit titled When the Photographer is Ready the Lord Buddha will Appear at Princeton Theological Seminary’s Erdman Art Gallery from June 10 through July 21. This exhibit displays some of the central tenets of Buddhism—mindfulness, awareness, acceptance, understanding, and compassion. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, June 10 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Erdman Art Gallery to coincide with an introductory seminar to Buddhism from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Buddhist nun Bhiksuni Karma Trime Lhamo will present the seminar. The cost for the seminar and reception is $15.

Timothy Scholars Program Begins at Princeton Seminary
Princeton, NJ, May 19, 2006–Princeton Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that the Foundation for Evangelism (FFE), an affiliate of the United Methodist Church’s General Board of Discipleship, has approved the inauguration of the Timothy Scholars Program at the Seminary. This program, part of the foundation’s effort to assist seminaries in making education for youth and young adult ministry more widely available to church leaders, consists of a scholarship initiative to support future seminary teachers in Christian higher education. Princeton Seminary was chosen because it is the home of the Princeton Theological Seminary Institute for Youth Ministry.

Princeton, NJ, March 24, 2006–Katharine Doob Sakenfeld, Princeton Seminary’s William Albright Eisenberger Professor of Old Testament Literature and Exegesis and the director of Ph.D. studies, was honored Wednesday, March 8, at the Princeton YWCA Tribute to Women 2006 Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Princeton. Local Artist to Display Sketches in Art Show at Princeton Seminary’s Erdman Gallery
Princeton, NJ, March 24, 2006–Sergio Bonotto will display a collection of his sketches at Princeton Theological Seminary’s Erdman Art Gallery from April 10 to June 2. A World War II veteran, Bonotto began sketching the limited world he saw around him as an infantry rifleman. His war sketches won an award from General George C. Marshal in 1950, and were exhibited in the United States and in Turin, Italy, Bonotto’s hometown. He studied drawing at Princeton University and received an M.A. in engineering from Columbia University in New York, spending his working life as a chemist with Union Carbide. After retiring, Bonotto returned to drawing and watercolors. He learned to operate an offset press, and began a business selling note cards, which are available locally at college bookshops, Jordan’s Cards and Gifts in the Princeton Shopping Center, and The Papery of Princeton.

David A. Weadon Memorial Organ Concert at Princeton Seminary
Princeton, NJ, March 14, 2006–Dutch organist Pieter van Dijk will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s Clavier-Übung III on the Joe R. Engle Organ of Princeton Theological Seminary’s Miller Chapel on Friday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. These organ chorales represent Bach’s most mature compositions in the genre. Van Dijk comes as a renowned interpreter of Bach’s organ works. He is organist of the Sint Laurenskerk in Alkmaar, professor of organ at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam, and artistic director of Organfestival Holland.

Prominent Chinese Christian Artist to Visit Princeton Seminary April 5

Nancy Lammers Gross Named Princeton Seminary’s Dean of Student Life

Princeton Seminary Students Make Mission Trips to Gulf Coast
Princeton, NJ, December 21, 2005–Two groups of Princeton Theological Seminary students will travel to the Gulf Coast this January to do Hurricane Katrina relief work. One group of 13 students will do cleanup work in Gautier, Mississippi, with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) January 14–21. This group of interested students contacted Cathy Cook Davis, the Seminary’s director of student relations, in the fall and began meeting together to plan the trip. “I am delighted with their initiative,” Davis said. The students raised their own funds through a letter-writing campaign and with donations from their home churches, professors, and other seminarians who could not travel with them. The campus group Seminarians for Peace and Justice also donated proceeds from their annual Alternative Christmas Gift Fair.

Princeton Seminary Professor Elected President of Academic Society
Princeton, NJ, December 1, 2005–Katharine Doob Sakenfeld, Princeton Seminary’s William Albright Eisenberger Professor of Old Testament Literature and Exegesis, was elected vice president of the Society of Biblical Literature at the group’s annual meeting in Philadelphia, November 19–22. She will, according to tradition, serve as vice president during 2006 and then assume the presidency of the society in 2007. This is the highest honor that can be accorded a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.

Princeton Seminary Students to present The Laramie Project
Princeton, NJ, November 9, 2005–In a quest to understand how a town and, more generally, a nation deals with hatred, a group of young actors and writers from New York traveled to Laramie, Wyoming, to examine the events surrounding the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay student at the University of Wyoming. The result was The Laramie Project, a play presented in a series of monologues, moments, and interviews with citizens of Laramie. It will be presented in the Mackay Campus Center Auditorium on the Princeton Theological Seminary campus by the Seminary’s student organization BGLASS in conjunction with Dramatists Play Services, Inc., on Thursday, December 8 and Saturday, December 10 at 8:00 p.m.

Princeton and Union Theological Seminaries Host October 24 Videoconference with Members of the Theological Task Force on Peace, Unity, and Purity of the Church
Princeton, NJ, September 8, 2005–Princeton Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education (Union-PSCE) will cosponsor a videoconference to discuss the report of the Peace, Unity, and Purity Task Force of the Presbyterian Church (USA) on Monday, October 24, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. The event is one of the early opportunities to discuss the report, which will be voted on in June 2006 at the church’s General Assembly. Princeton Seminary Annual Used Book Sale April 4–6

Darrell Guder Named New Academic Dean of Princeton Theological Seminary
