Erdman Gallery Art Exhibit
Elaine Chong “Inlet”

New Jersey artist Elaine Chong explores contained energy through the use of transparent and semitransparent materials. Handmade paper, wax, and oil are layered and imbedded on the surface over time, creating environments for visual exchange. Chong is assistant director of the Art Access program at the Matheny School and Hospital in Peapack, New Jersey.

As part of “Shaping a Community of Witnesses: A Conference on Best Practices in Christian Formation and Spiritual Leadership,” sponsored by the Faithful Practices Project/Tennent School of Christian Education, the public is invited to a worship service led by the Reverend Pam Driesell, pastor of Oconee Presbyterian Church in Athens, Georgia.
The Faithful Practices Project is a grant funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. and sponsored by Princeton Theological Seminary to construct new ways of understanding faith formation and discipleship in congregations and in theological education. It builds on the concept of congregational practices and aims to empower churches to deepen and broaden their witness in the world.

The Frederick Neumann Memorial Lecture
“Re-forming Congregations in a Time of Global Change”

Lecturer: Dr. John W. de Gruchy is professor emeritus of Christian studies and formerly director of the Graduate School in Humanities at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where he taught for more than 30 years. During that period he was also an associate minister of the Rondebosch United Church. He has two doctoral degrees, one in theology and one in social science, and has received honorary doctorates from Chicago Theological Seminary and Rhodes University. He is internationally known for his contribution to the study of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s theology, the history of the church and public theology in South Africa, and, more recently, theology and art. He gave the Warfield Lectures at Princeton Seminary in 1990. He is a senior research associate at the University of Cape Town and an honorary professor at the University of Stellensbosch.
