Nearly 1,200 people attended the inauguration of Princeton Theological Seminary’s sixth president, the Rev. Dr. Iain Torrance. The inauguration took place in Princeton University’s gothic chapel, built in 1923. The combined choirs of Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton University, and Westminster Choir College sang at the inauguration.

Princeton Theological Seminary’s newly inaugurated president, the Rev. Dr. Iain Torrance, delivers his inaugural address at the Princeton University chapel. Torrance became the sixth president of Princeton Theological Seminary on March 11. In celebration, Princeton University installed a Jerusalem cross on the pulpit.

Dr. Iain Torrance. Princeton Theological Seminary, founded in 1812, is the largest and oldest seminary of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

The dean of academic affairs-elect at Princeton Theological Seminary, Dr. Darrell Guder, speaks with Dr. Aref Nayed, a visiting fellow at the Center for Advanced Religious and Theological Studies at the University of Cambridge in England.  Nayed, a Muslim scholar interested in interreligious dialogue, was one of four participants in a panel titled, “Faith in the Third Millennium: Reading Scripture Together,” held in honor of the inauguration of the Rev. Dr. Iain Torrance as Princeton Theological Seminary’s sixth president.

Dr. Iain Torrance as Princeton Theological Seminary’s sixth president.

Miller Chapel (1834) was built as the center of the Seminary’s worship life. Its 2000 renovation included the addition of the Joe R. Engle Organ.

Alexander Hall (1815) was the first building built by the Presbyterian Church (USA) for use as a seminary. Originally, it was a classroom, refectory, faculty office, and residence hall. Today it is a dormitory.
