Gilberto Ruiz is a Cuban-American born and raised in Miami, FL. His interests lie particularly in the Gospels, Acts, and the Johannine literature; biblical interpretation from literary-critical, postcolonial, liberationist, and Latina/o hermeneutical perspectives; and the presence of the Roman Empire in the New Testament. Ruiz dissertation investigates the temple scene in John 2:13-22 in light of the economics of temples and temple markets in the Roman Empire. Gilberto is an active member of the Roman Catholic Church
