    Biography Statement

    Gilberto Ruiz is a Cuban-American born and raised in Miami, FL. His interests lie particularly in the Gospels, Acts, and the Johannine literature; biblical interpretation from literary-critical, postcolonial, liberationist, and Latina/o hermeneutical perspectives; and the presence of the Roman Empire in the New Testament. Using literary and historical methods of analysis, Ruiz's dissertation examines Jesus’ demonstration in the temple in John 2:13–22 with close attention to the economic realities that affect its interpretation. Gilberto is an active member of the Roman Catholic Church
