Biography Statement
The Rev. Dr. Loida I. Martell-Otero is Professor of Constructive Theology at
Palmer Theological Seminary, in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. She received her degree
from Fordham University. She is an ordained American Baptist Churches/USA minister
who pastored for 15 years. She is also a doctor of veterinary medicine. She served as an
assistant professor at the University of Puerto Rico/ Medical Sciences campus, and as an
adjunct faculty member at the Center for Urban Ministerial Education (the Boston
campus of Gordon-Conwell Theological School), Hartford Seminary and at New York
Theological Seminary.
Her writings include “Creating a Sacred Space: An Iglesia Evangélica Response
to Global Homelessness” in Dialog (March 2010); “Encuentro con el Jesús Sato: An
Evangélica Soter-ology,” in Jesus in the Hispanic Community edited by Harold Recinos
and Hugo Magallanes (WJK, 2010); “Of Satos and Saints: Salvation from the Periphery,”
in Perspectivas (Summer of 2001); and “Mujeres Hispanas/ Latinas Teologizando: Una
Perspectiva Evangélica,” in Más Voces: Reflexiones Teológicas de la Iglesia Hispana
(Abingdon Press). She is co-editor and contributor to Teología en Conjunto: A
Collaborative Hispanic Protestant Theology (WJK) with José D. Rodríguez.
She has participated in various HTI and Wabash Center workshops, and has made
presentations in ecclesial and professional venues, including the American Academy of
Religion and for the American Baptist Churches/USA Gathering of Scholars and
Theological Educators. She has developed a passion for photography.
