    Biography Statement

Rebecca Berru-Davis completed her PhD in the area of Art and Religion in 2012 at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Rebecca is interested in the intersection of art, faith, and justice as a way to understand the spiritual and religious expressions of those located on the margins of society. Her research is focused on women; particularly Latin American and U.S. Latina women’s creative activity evidenced in the home, the church and the community. With over twenty years of teaching, museum, and arts advocacy experience she continues to explore ways in which the arts are illuminative, inspirational and prophetic. Her current research and curatorial project, Picturing Paradise: Cuadros by the Peruvian Women of Pamplona Alta as Visions of Hope continues to unfold as it is exhibited in university galleries and museums throughout the world. For more information about the exhibit: www.convida.org or [email protected] In July 2013, Rebecca was awarded a Louisville Fellowship from the Louisville Institute’s “Vocation of the Theological Educator’” initiative. A program of the Lilly Endowment, the postdoctoral mentorship fellowship begins fall 2014 at Saint John’s University in Collegeville, MN.
