    Biography Statement

    Hugo Magallanes earned his Ph.D. from Drew University and joined the Perkins faculty in 2007 after serving as assistant provost for Asbury Theological Seminary in Florida. A native of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, he is a clergy member of the South Georgia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. His research interests include finding God in contemporary cultural expressions, Wesley and the poor, the church’s moral responsibility, and post-modernity. In 2011 he became the director of the Center for the Study of Latino/a Christianity and Religions at Perkins. His publications include Introducción a la Vida y Teología de Juan Wesley and an entry on “Racism” in the Dictionary for Theological Interpretation of Scripture. He has also served on the Commission on Theological Education of the University Senate of The United Methodist Church and as president of La Comunidad, a community of Hispanic-Latino/a scholars from the American Academy of Religion and Society for Biblical Literature.
