Calvin, Worship and Music: Glad Surprises for the Church Today

SUNDAY – March 29 (6:00 p.m.)

 “A Sacrifice of Praise”

Location: Miller Chapel

A service of thanks for the life of John Calvin and his gifts to the worship life of the church, featuring Philip Orr, composer, Cornelius Plantinga, preacher, and the choirs of Nassau Presbyterian Church, Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church, and Princeton Theological Seminary.

A reception will follow.

Open to the public and free of charge.

 MONDAY – March 30 (9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

Dr. Nicholas Wolterstorff will offer a keynote address on the topic of the contemporary relevance of John Calvin’s liturgy and liturgical theology.  At the conclusion of the morning participants will join the Seminary community in a worship service with Dr. Cornelius Plantinga preaching, assisted by Rev. Janice Ammon, Minister of the Chapel. After lunch participants may choose from sessions in which they may have further discussion with the presenters, explore musical resources for congregation and choir, or visit the display of historic Calvinist psalters and other materials in the archives of the Seminary library. 


Audience: Church musicians, pastors, and theologically and intellectually curious individuals who are interested in relevant applications worshipping with music.

Registration Fees:

  • Commuter: $50/person (program and lunch)
  • Resident: $135/person (program; single lodging Sunday evening; meals: Sunday dinner through Monday lunch)

Individuals attending from the same organization are eligible for an additional 20% discount of the program fee. Please highlight your organization and a colleague's name to be eligible for this discount.
