Program in Non-Profit Financial Management

Non-profits, by their nature, do not have a goal of returning excess revenues to investors - that is the role of businesses run for profit. However, non-profits do have things in common with for-profit enterprises, including how to be a good steward of financial resources.

As the title 'non-profit' might imply, social entrepreneurs and other individuals involved in non-profits may not be classically trained in business. The purpose of this program is to provide an introduction and familiarity with business terms so the participants can comfortably ask more questions.

There are five areas this program will focus upon:

  • Budgeting
  • Financial Statements (reading and analyzing)
  • Investments
  • Fraud (prevention and how to respond when detected)
  • Fundraising / Capital Campaigns

This program is designed for leaders of communities of faith (i.e. pastors, rabbis, imams), leaders of social organiziations (i.e. Rotarians) and foundations.

An accelerated ten-hour program will be offered evenings in late March through April. An expanded week long certificate program will be offered in January 2009.

Information for this timely program will be posted in the immediate future. To be notified as soon as information is posted, please click here, or send an e-mail to erdman@ptsem.edu.
