The intention of the Speer Education Fund is to assist needy candidates who otherwise might not be able to pursue preparation for the Presbyterian ministry. Grant funds are available to second and third year seminary students who are under the care of a Presbytery, which are renewable. Preference will be given to members of Westminster Church, New Castle Presbytery, and to students at Presbyterian seminaries. In selection, emphasis will be focused on candidates who will commit to parish service. Recipients who do not receive ordination will be expected to repay funds without interest.

A doctoral dissertation research fellowship for students specializing in architecture, art history, archaeology and classical studies. Applicants must be I.S. citizens or students studying at U.S. universities.

The WREI Fellowships are designed to train women as potential leaders in public policy formation and to examine issues from the perspective, experiences, and needs of women. This unique legislative program is the only Capitol Hill fellowship program directed by, for, and about women. This annual fellowship program places graduate or recently graduated graduate students in Congressional offices and on strategic committee staffs in order to encourage more effective participation by women in the formation of public policy at all levels. Congressional Fellows spend one academic year (January to September) at the graduate or professional level working 35 hours per week in their assigned offices as a legislative aide on policy issues affecting women. Any student currently enrolled in a graduate program anywhere in the United States or who has graduated from such a program within the past 18 months in eligible. Applicants may register for 3 credit hours per semester at their home institution, but are not required to do so. WREI strongly recommends that students complete at least 9 hours of graduate course work before applying and have a demonstrated interest in research and political activity relevant to women's social and political status. Fellows receive a stipend of $1,300 per month for the nine-month term of appointment, plus an additional $500 to cover health insurance. WREI will also reimburse fellows up to a maximum of $1,500 for the cost of tuition credit at their home institutions.
Women's Studies in Religion Program

The Women's Studies in Religion Program fosters critical inquiry into the interaction between religion and gender, throughout the world's religions. Every year, the Program appoints five full-time Research Associates to spend a year at Harvard Divinity School's pursuing a book-length project on women and religion. Each scholar is appointed to the faculty as a member of one of the Divinity School's departments. As such, each designs and teaches a one-semester course related to his/her research topic and delivers a lecture that deepens understanding about that topic. Positions are open to candidates with doctorates in religion or with primary competence in other fields of the humanities or social sciences, and to leading professionals with equivalent achievements. The group of five scholars usually includes at least one international scholar, one scholar working on a non-western tradition, one scholar of Judaism, and one minority scholar. Candidates are selected according to the quality of their research proposal, in which both religion and gender should function as critical categories of analysis. Associates will receive a salary of $40,000 and benefits for full-time appointment extending from September to June 30.

The Andrew W. Mellow Fellowship helps exceptionally promising students to prepare for careers in teaching, scholarship of humanistic studies and encourages graduate study in the humanities. This award is offered to citizens of the US who are beginning graduate work in a Ph.D. program. The award provides a stipend of $17,500 plus full tuition and fees for the first year of study; it covers only the first year of study in a Ph.D. program and is not available at any other level. Interested parties should request an application at www.woodrow.org/mellon; 85 awards are given annually.
World Alliance of Reformed Churches

The aim of this program is to broaden understanding within the Reformed family and to deepen ecumenical commitment. About 37 theological scholarships in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North and South America are awarded annually by 25 theological seminaries/ faculties participating in the program which is intended primarily for postgraduate theological studies. The majority of scholarships offered in the United States are not available to US citizens. The World Alliance of Reformed Churches links candidates to the seminaries participating in the program, but does not provide any financial assistance. Each year between June 1 and September 30, the responsible officers of WARC member churches may write to the scholarship program assistance at the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, Geneva requesting application forms for named candidates. Direct individual requests are not entertained.
