USA Funds works to promote access to higher education. Applicant must plan to enroll or are enrolled in full or half-time undergraduate or full-time graduate or professional degree coursework at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational/technical school. GED recipients also are eligible. Students must plan to enroll or be enrolled beginning with the fall 2008 term through Feb. 1, 2009. The program will award scholarships of $1,500. The scholarships may be renewed annually, if the student maintains a 2.5 grade point average on a four point scale, until the continuously enrolled student receives a final degree or certificate, or until the total award to the student reaches $6,000. Additionally, up to 50 percent of the scholarship awards will be targeted to applicants who are members of an ethnic minority group or have a documented physical disability.

This is the seventh annual Homiletics Award competition for seminarians and graduate students in degree programs preparing them for preaching and teaching ministries. It is our hope to challenge students to interpret and exposit the message of James 5:1-6, the warning to rich oppressors, in a way that is both biblically faithful and relevant to the needs of contemporary society. Entrants will be asked to prepare a twelve to twenty minute sermon targeted toward a group of executives at a weekend retreat. Submissions should include a manuscript, an audio tape of the preached message and a completed application, available online. Cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and $500 will be awarded to the first, second, and third place finalists.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation provides funds to advance education in fulfillment of its mission: To promote life long learning. Post-freshman students are eligible for financial support based on academic merit or financial need. Merit scholarships are awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in the amount of $1,000; Financial Assistance scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students in amounts ranging from $500 to $1,500. Applicants must be post-freshman undergraduates currently enrolled in an accredited degree granting program, or graduate students who plan to continue their academic pursuits in the fall of the grant year. American Baptist Hispanic students pursuing an undergraduate or first professional degree in a seminary may apply for renewable grants. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and plan to serve in a church-related ministry.
Individual Seminarian Grants Deadline: May 31
American Baptist students attending a seminary not related to American Baptist Churches USA are eligible for grants. Seminarians may apply for these grants each academic year for up to three years. Seminarians must be enrolled at least two-thirds time in one of the following first professional degree programs: M.Div., M.C.E., M.A.C.E., or M.R.E.

The Institute's Fellowship Program is open to dissertation-level and postdoctoral scholars engaged in research in Turkey in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences. Fellowships support projects ranging from one month to a year. Hostel, research, and study facilities are available at ARIT's branches in Istanbul and Ankara. Applicants must be members in good standing of educational institutions in the United States or Canada. Typical stipends provide $2,000-$16,000.

The ATLA Bibliography Grant is given annually by the Publications Committee of the American Theological Library Association (ATLA) to one or more biographers or indexers to aid in the development of a work that provides access to a significant body of literature within the fields of theological and/or religious studies. The scope, subject matter, length, and format are broadly conceived, with the intent of encouraging bibliographical or indexing work at all levels, especially by persons undertaking their first major project in this area. The amount of the award is up to $1,500 and the award is open to applicants inside and outside the ATLA.
Amy Writing Awards Deadline: January 31
An award of $10,000 will be made to the first place winner in this writing competition. Submitted articles must have been published in a secular, non-religious publication. God's words must be quoted in the article and the article must present the Biblical position on a relevant and timely issue (family life, divorce, political morality, abortion, media, etc.) Additional prizes will be given to winners from second to fifteenth place.

Appalachian Summer Travel Seminars and Courses Deadlines: May 15
Various member seminaries of the Appalachian Ministries Consortium offer credit hours for participation in winter and summer travel seminars and semester courses to students who are interested in small church ministry in Appalachian counties and other rural areas. Students should be nominated by their seminaries. These are typically five to six courses in a given year. Participants can receive a maximum of $500 in scholarships for each course. Tuition and course fees are usually $900. Courses are listed on the website.

For travel and study in Greece, the Aegean Island, Sicily, Southern Italy, Asia Minor, or Mesopotamia. The $22,000 fellowship is open to all students, but preference is given to people doing research toward a Ph.D. and recent recipients of a Ph.D. (within 5 years of the application deadline). The fellowship is not intended to support excavations. The award may be given to one or two applicants annually. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada.
Helen M. Woodruff Fellowship (Applications must be sent to AAR)
A $10,000 pre- or post-doctoral fellowship for the study of archeology and classical studies has been established by the Institute at the American Academy in Rome. Archeology of Portugal Fund Deadline: November 1, annually
Portuguese, American and other international scholars are invited to apply for this $4,000 Fellowship (amount varies according to applicants proposed budget) to support study in Portugal.
Anna C. and Oliver C. Colburn Fellowship Deadline: January 15, even years
The fellowship award is $11,000 and is to support studies undertaken at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, Greece, for no more than one year. Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada, must be at the pre-doctoral stage or have recently received a Ph.D. (within five years of the date of the application.), and must apply concurrently to the American School for Associate Membership or Student Associate Membership. The award is contingent upon the applicant's acceptance by the ASCSA. The applicant may not be a member of the ASCSA during the year of application.
Harriet and Leon Pomerance Fellowship Deadline: November 1, annually
The $4,000 prize is intended to support an individual project of a scholarly nature and should be related to Aegean Bronze Age Archeology. Applicants must be residents of the U.S. or Canada, or be actively pursuing an advanced degree at a North American college or University. Previous Pomerance Fellows are not eligible.
Publications Grant November 1, annually
The $5000 grant is intended to support scholars in completing and publishing field research in a peer-reviewed outlet. The grant will assist in the final analysis and writing of the results of field research so that, by the end of the second year, a completed manuscript may be submitted for publication. Applications are open to graduate students and postdoctoral professionals. Applicants must be members of the AIA at the time of application and until the end of the grant term. Recipients are expected to submit a report to AIA Fellowships Committee after the first year of funding and are also encouraged to submit an abstract to the AIA's Annual Meeting during the second year. At the conclusion of the fellowship, the recipient must have plans for publication and a manuscript.
