Through a bequest to Princeton Seminary, friends and alumni/ae can support the general program of our institution; endow a faculty chair of instruction; a Continuing Education seminar, or a student scholarship; make provisions for the Seminary libraries or a campus building; or fund a life income gift (charitable gift annuity, pooled income fund, charitable remainder trust) through our planned giving program, to name but some of the possibilities.

Bequests can take a variety of forms:

  • the specific bequest, by which a specific item or sum of money is left to the Seminary. The latter can be expressed as a dollar amount or as a percentage figure.

  • the residuary bequest in which having made specific bequests to certain individuals and other causes, you leave the remainder of your estate to the Seminary. Fractional shares may be given to a number of beneficiaries.

  • the contingent bequest through which the Seminary can be the beneficiary if other beneficiaries you have named do not survive you.

You can also make provisions for the Seminary through a codicil that can be added to an already existing will. Your lawyer can explain more fully the various possibilities available to you and help you determine what will best accomplish your charitable objectives. In your will or codicil, we ask that you refer to the Seminary as “Princeton Theological Seminary.”

Bequest language:

I bequeath to Princeton Theological Seminary, located at Princeton, New Jersey, the sum of $______________ to be used for the general purposes of the Seminary (or as designated by the testator).

A form of bequest for an endowment gift is:

I bequeath to Princeton Theological Seminary, located at Princeton, New Jersey, the sum of $______________ to be held as an endowment fund with the income only to be used for the general purposes of the Seminary (or for the special purposes of _____________ at Princeton Theological Seminary).
