Chaplain Joanne Martindale to Preach at Princeton Seminary as part of Military Chaplains Day to Honor Veterans
Princeton, NJ, November 8, 2007–Princeton Theological Seminary will host a luncheon for military chaplains and chaplain candidates on Monday, November 12 at 12:30 p.m. to celebrate Veterans Day.
Joanne Martindale, a Princeton Seminary alumna and Army National Guard chaplain, will preach in Miller Chapel at 10:00 a.m., and will be a special guest at the luncheon. Along with Chaplain Martindale, recruiters will be present to speak with seminarians who are interested in military careers or information about the chaplain corps.
Martindale earned her M.Div. at Princeton Seminary in 1988 and is currently chaplain at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in Ancora, New Jersey. As a National Guard chaplain, she spent more than a month at ground zero in Manhattan and at the Staten Island landfill, caring for workers who were sorting through debris from the September 11 attacks. In 2005 she worked as a chaplain in Iraq heading in-person group therapy for female soldiers who were missing their young children at home. Also while in Iraq, Martindale helped soldiers cope with the grief of losing fellow soldiers. There are currently 125 active Seminary alumni/ae serving as military chaplains.
Chaplain Martindale will be available to answer questions from local press at the luncheon.
Princeton Theological Seminary was founded in 1812, the first seminary established by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. It is the largest Presbyterian Seminary in the country, with more than 700 students in seven graduate degree programs.
