Christianity Today Editor and Beeson Divinity School Founding Dean Timothy George to Lecture at Princeton Seminary
Princeton, NJ, March 29, 2006– The executive editor of the evangelical magazine Christianity Today and the founding dean of Beeson Divinity School, Timothy George, will lecture at Princeton Theological Seminary on the topic “The Evangelical Tradition and Mere Christianity” on Friday, April 7, from 12:30–1:30 p.m. in the Main Lounge of the Mackay Campus Center. He will address the history and theology of American Evangelicalism and compare and contrast it to that of the gospel-centered tradition of “Mere Christianity” as articulated by C.S. Lewis. An open coffee hour will also be held with George at 3:00 p.m. in the balcony of the Main Dining Room of the Mackay Campus Center.
George has been at Beeson Divinity School since its inception in 1988, currently teaching church history, historical theology, and theology of the Reformers. He serves not only at Christianity Today, but also on the editorial advisory boards of The Harvard Theological Review, Christian History, and Books and Culture. He previously served on the board of directors for Lifeway Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. As an ordained minister, George also pastored churches in Tennessee, Alabama, and Massachusetts. He has written more than twenty books, among them Theology of the Reformers, and regularly contributes to scholarly journals. He has been active in the ecumenical dialog between evangelicals and the Roman Catholic Church, and is greatly sought after as a conference speaker and preacher.
George’s visit is sponsored by the Theological Students’ Fellowship at Princeton Theological Seminary. For more information, contact Mark Edwards at mark.edwards@ptsem.edu.
