Woodblock Artist Idaherma Williams to Exhibit at Princeton Seminary’s Erdman Art Gallery

Princeton, NJ, May 30, 2007–Woodblock artist Idaherma Williams will exhibit her work in a show called “The Twelve Labors of Hercules” at Princeton Theological Seminary’s Erdman Art Gallery from Monday, June 4 to Friday, July 13.

Williams prints all her editions by hand using a baren, a Japanese tool used in printmaking processes. The prints reflect her appreciation and respect for the beauty of the woodblock. “My work is my search for the hidden beauty in our world and its transformation into art,” she says.

Williams’s woodblock prints have been exhibited in national and international exhibitions. She was awarded the Medal of Honor and the Elizabeth Morse Genius Award for Printmaking by the National Association of Women Artists One Hundred and Fifteenth National Juried Exhibition in May 2004, the first Jawk 1 Prize by the Kyoto Woodblock Association in 2004, and the Silver Medal of Honor for Graphics by the Audubon Artists Inc. in October 2004. She is president of The American Color Print Society and is on the board of the Society of American Graphic Artists. Williams holds an M.F.A. from the Graduate School of Fine Arts of the University of Pennsylvania. She also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and has a B.F.A. from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
