Princeton Seminary Hosts Ninth Annual Health Fair

Princeton, NJ, October 18, 2006–The Wholistic Health Initiative of Princeton Theological Seminary will host its ninth annual health fair on Tuesday, October 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Mackay Campus Center. The fair emphasizes the care of the body, mind, and spirit.

To that end, the fair will feature a variety of health practitioners offering information about different health practices, both traditional and nontraditional. There will be healthy snacks, counseling resources, free chair massages, and screenings for blood pressure, among other activities. Experts, including chiropractors, drug and alcohol specialists, family planning specialists, and a psychiatrist, will also be available. Door prizes will be offered during the fair, and announced at dinner that same evening. A free introductory mini-spiritual-direction session can be arranged with previous notification. To preregister for spiritual direction, call 609.497.7890.

A labyrinth will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Gambrell Room of Scheide Hall. Walking the labyrinth, a twenty-four-foot, seven-circuit canvas based on the medieval labyrinth at Chartres Cathedral in France, is a meditative practice reaching back hundreds of years. This ancient practice involves moving through the whorls and loops of a drawn walk, giving people a chance to open up to God in their own walk of life.

The Seminary’s Wholistic Health Initiative, an organization of students under the direction of Nancy Schongalla-Bowman, director of student counseling, is sponsoring the fair to encourage members of the Seminary community and the Princeton community to develop values, habits, and lifestyles that support wholistic health by providing resources and experiential opportunities that advance lifelong health and balance.
