The Author: Jim Wallis
The Book: The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post-Religious Right America

Thursday, April 10, 2008
6:30–8:30 p.m.
Location: Stuart Hall - Room 6.
Instructions will be mailed to registered and wait-listed participants on Monday, April 7.

In his latest book, The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post-Religious Right America, Jim Wallis addresses the question: What will it take to solve the biggest issues of our time—poverty, global warming and environmental degradation, terrorism, violence, racism, human trafficking, health care, and education—in a world where politicians are offering only blame and fear? Wallis also reminds us that our greatest national reforms, such as the abolition of slavery and the civil rights movement, had the impetus of religious faith behind them. With such awareness, we can rediscover our moral center and forge anew a transformative movement amidst the politics as usual in Washington, D.C.

Jim Wallis is a best-selling author, public theologian, preacher, speaker, activist, and international commentator on ethics and public life. His background includes involvement in the civil rights and antiwar movements as a student at Michigan State University. His commitment to social justice continued while he studied at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Illinois, where he and several other students started a small magazine and community with a Christian commitment that has grown into a national faith-based organization for which Wallis serves as president and executive director: Sojourners.
