Working effectively with couples in conflict requires recognition of the basic premise of each partner’s commitment underlying the relationship. The premise shifts significantly when one or both partners decide to separate. These underlying premises will be explored, with recommendations for what will (and won’t) work in helping couples resolve conflict at various stages of commitment.
