Spirituality in Healthcare

This workshop provides an introduction to the role of spirituality in healthcare. It will address the paradigm shifts in the history of the health professions about the role of religion and spirituality in patient care, spirituality in health and illness across the lifespan, spirituality from the perspective of multiple religious and cultural worldviews, and spirituality as it influences personal decision-making. Emphasis will be on spiritual development and personal spirituality as resources for the provision of healthcare.

Seminar Leader: Dr. Ana Maria Catanzaro is associate professor in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at La Salle University, where she teaches courses and conducts research in spirituality and healthcare, healthcare ethics, research methodologies, and healthcare across the lifespan. She earned both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in nursing from La Salle University, a Master of Arts in moral theology from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, and a Ph.D. in spiritual theology from The Catholic University of America. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Duke University's Center for Theology, Spirituality, and Health.

Audience: Healthcare professionals, ministry professionals (chaplains in hospitals and hospices), and social workers

Chaplains: 5.0 CCEs approved by the Association of Professional Chaplains
