Nature as a Window to God: A Spiritual Retreat

October 25–26, 2006
Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. to Thursday, 3:00 p.m.
Location: The Spiritual Sanctuary at the Johnsonburg Presbyterian Center in Johnsonburg, New Jersey

This retreat, cosponsored by Princeton Seminary’s Center of Continuing Education and the Johnsonburg Presbyterian Center, will involve a spacious exploration of the place of creation in our spiritual lives, and includes a rhythm of presentations and quiet, rest, and renewal.

Participants are encouraged to bring digital or other cameras, Bibles, and journals, as well as something that speaks to them of God in nature—poetry, visuals of favorite natural places, stories of encounters with God in creation, or objects that speak of the beauty found in nature. We will share these gifts at an informal gathering after supper Wednesday evening. For more information about this retreat, email the Johnsonburg Center: info@campjburg.org.

Seminar Leader: Glenn Mitchell is director of training and programs for Oasis Ministries of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, and has a practice of spiritual direction and retreat leadership based in State College, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Juniata College, (B.A.) and Bethany Theological Seminary, (M.Div.). He completed his training in spiritual guidance with the Shalem Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1995. He was a pastor for 23 years before transitioning his ministry to the area of spiritual formation and direction in 2001. He has led a variety of retreats around the country on themes of prayer, nature and spirituality, and the interplay of art and spirituality.
