Doctor of Philosophy Program

Introduction

Dear Prospective Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Ph.D. Studies program at Princeton Theological Seminary.  A detailed description of the Ph.D. program is found on the Seminary web site.  For your convenience, links to individual academic department web pages, descriptions of field-specific programs of study, and a program overview are  accessible from this site.

Information on Ph.D. admission requirements and scholarships and application forms for financial aid and housing are accessible on the left side bar.

We are very pleased to announce that application to the Ph.D. program is now available online, and all prospective applicants are encouraged to use this new feature.  To access the online application, please click on the “apply here” button on this page.

(Please note: The link to “application forms” located on the left side bar is intended for use only by those who do not have the computer technology available to them or the means to submit the application electronically.)

A checklist is provided as a guide to you during the application process. Although your application will be completed and submitted electronically, you will also be required to submit a hard copy of your application form along with your other credentials. Please have all letters of reference, transcripts, and other required forms sent to you directly in sealed envelopes.  You will be responsible for submitting the printed application and accompanying documents to the Ph.D. Studies Office before the firm application deadline.

Scores from the Graduate Record Examination General Test (GRE) or, if English is not your native language, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are required. Only one test is required (either the GRE or the TOEFL).  A test waiver is not permitted. Please schedule your test early enough to assure that results will reach the Ph.D. Studies Office by December 31. (The ETS institution code for Princeton Seminary is 2671.)

The absolute final deadline for receipt of all applications is December 31. All applicants, including alumni/ae, are required to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee. Please note: A reduced fee of $50 is charged for applications with supporting documents received in the Ph.D. Studies Office before December 3. Any application received after December 3 must include the full $70 fee or it will not be processed.

Please call (609.497.7818) or send an email (phd@ptsem.edu) to the Ph.D. Studies Office if you have any questions about Princeton Seminary or the Ph.D. Studies program.

Sincerely yours,
Katharine Doob Sakenfeld
Director of Ph.D. Studies
