Academic Affairs

What We Do

The Dean of Academic Affairs has administrative oversight of the departments and programs of instruction, and generally of matters that pertain to the effectiveness and professional development of the faculty. The dean is a member ex officio of all faculty search and promotion committees, receives recommendations for sabbatical and research leaves, appoints teaching assistants upon recommendation of the departments, and otherwise assists departments and individual faculty members in addressing their teaching and research needs.

The Academic Affairs office also supervises the faculty secretaries and works with the Information Technology department in making provision for general and specialized technology services.

Except as an adviser on policy, the Dean of Academic Affairs does not participate in the admission of students or in monitoring their progress through the curriculum. Inquiries on such matters should be addressed to the Dean of Student Life or, for doctoral programs, to the Director of Ph.D. Studies or the Director of D.Min. Studies.
