¥Symbolic geography of Transjordan and the Jordan River in the Old and New Testaments

¥Israelite prophets and the institution of prophecy

¥Formation and structure of the Deuteronomistic History, especially the books of Samuel

¥Anthropological and sociological approaches in biblical interpretation

¥Foundation, representation, and justification of political and religious authority, particularly as found in the Old Testament

¥Northwest Semitic languages, their corresponding philology, paleography, and historical development

¥Reading strategies, including hermeneutics, structuralism, postmodernism, and postcolonialism
