Professor James H. Charlesworth established the Princeton Theological Seminary Dead Sea Scrolls Project in 1985 to make available the critical edition of all the Dead Sea Scrolls that are not copies of biblical books (that is, documents collected in the Biblia Hebraica).   Each document is presented with a transcription of the manuscripts on the left-hand page with a facing English translation.  An international team of over 50 scholars was assembled to contribute to this massive project, of which Professor Charlesworth is the director and editor of the project and   Henry W. Retz is the assistant editor.  The editors and contributors are supported by a gifted staff of graduate students.  The series is being published by Mohr Siebeck of Tübingen  and Westminster John Knox Press of Louisville.  To date, five volumes have been published along with the first of two concordances.

Along with the publication project, the Princeton Theological Seminary Dead Sea Scrolls Project is involved in developing techniques for imaging Scrolls and other ancient manuscript.   For example, working with scientists from Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, Rochester Institute of Technology and Xerox Corporation, we have been able to produce images of Scrolls revealing previously unseen portions of lines on damaged manuscripts.
