Professor of Old Testament. M.Div., Luther Seminary; M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., Yale University.  His academic interests are in literary approaches to Old Testament interpretation and Old Testament and biblical theology.  He specializes in the area of  the Pentateuch and other narrative literature of the Old Testament.  Among his publications are The Death of the Old and the Birth of the New: The Framework of the Book of Numbers and the Pentateuch (1985), Deuteronomy and the Death of Moses, A Theological Reading (1994), Numbers (Interpretation), and "The Book of Judges: Introduction, Commentary, Reflections," New Interpreters Bible, Volume II, eds.
