Professor of New Testament. M.Div.,
Princeton Theological Seminary; Ph.D., Emory University. His primary interests
are the synoptic Gospels and Revelation. He is particularly interested in
cultural hermeneutics, as well as socio-linguistic and rhetorical approaches to
text interpretation. His publications include Cultural Interpretation: Reorienting New Testament Criticism (1995)
and Go Preach! Mark’s Kingdom Message and the Black Church Today
(1998). Professor Blount is the
chair of the Program Committee for the Society of Biblical Literature, a member
of its Executive Council, and an editor for the Journal of Biblical Literature.
